Configure Microsoft 365 Email in Outlook (Desktop app)

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • Your email address

  • Your password

  • MFA ready (if enabled)

Outlook Classic refers to the full desktop version (not “New Outlook”).


Standard Setup (Automatic – Recommended)

1️⃣ Open Outlook

If this is a new install:

  • Outlook may prompt you automatically to add an account.

If not:

  • Go to File → Account Settings → Account Settings

  • Click New


2️⃣ Enter Email Address

Outlook should automatically detect Microsoft 365.


3️⃣ Sign In

  • Enter your password

  • Complete MFA if prompted

  • Click Done

Outlook will configure:

  • Mail

  • Calendar

  • Contacts


If Automatic Setup Fails (Manual Method)

  1. Go to File → Account Settings → New

  2. Choose Advanced Options

  3. Check Let me set up my account manually

  4. Select Exchange

  5. Enter:

    • Email address

    • Password

Server should auto-populate as:

outlook.office365.com

Important Notes

  • Do NOT configure Microsoft 365 as POP or IMAP.

  • Use Exchange / Microsoft 365 only.

  • Outlook must be activated and licensed under the user’s Microsoft 365 account.
