Applies to: Microsoft 365 Business users
Important: Before syncing a SharePoint library, ensure you have signed in to your Microsoft 365 account and that the Microsoft OneDrive application is installed on your computer. Windows 11 includes OneDrive by default.
Overview
Syncing a SharePoint document library allows you to access your organization's shared files directly from Windows File Explorer. Files are automatically synchronized between your computer and Microsoft 365, allowing you to work on them even when you're offline.
Before You Begin
Office Works will provide you with one or more SharePoint links for your organization. Each link opens a specific SharePoint document library that you can synchronize to your computer.
Instructions
- Open your preferred web browser.
- Browse to the SharePoint link provided by Office Works.
- Sign in using your business email address and password if prompted.
- On the left side of the page, click Documents if it is not already selected.
- Near the top-right of the document library, click the More options (...) button.
- Click Sync.
- If prompted by your browser, click Open Microsoft OneDrive (or Open) to allow the OneDrive application to launch.
- If Microsoft OneDrive is not installed or does not launch, follow the prompts to install or update OneDrive, then repeat the previous step.
- Wait while Windows configures the synchronization. This may take a few moments.
- Open File Explorer.
- In the navigation pane, you should now see the SharePoint library listed under your organization name.
- Repeat these steps for any additional SharePoint libraries provided by Office Works.
Verify Sync is Working
- Open the synchronized SharePoint folder in File Explorer.
- Create a test file in the folder.
- Wait a few moments for synchronization to complete.
- A green checkmark beside the file indicates it has synchronized successfully.
- Refresh the SharePoint document library in your web browser and confirm the file appears.
Troubleshooting
- If you do not see the Sync option, make sure you are viewing the Documents library rather than another page within the SharePoint site.
- If your browser repeatedly asks whether to open Microsoft OneDrive, choose Always allow if the option is available.
- If the SharePoint library does not appear in File Explorer after syncing, restart the OneDrive application or restart your computer and try again.
- If you receive an Access Denied message, contact Office Works to confirm that you have permission to access the SharePoint library.
