Block Notifications from Edge

Modified on Thu, Feb 5 at 8:38 AM

If you are getting unwanted pop-ups at the bottom right corner of your computer, (by the date & time), it might be due to some Microsoft Edge notification settings.  Give this a try.

Tip: Edge icon looks like this:

Option 1: Block All Notification Requests (Recommended)

Stops websites from asking to send notifications.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge

  2. Click the three dots (⋯) in the top-right

  3. Go to Settings

  4. Click Cookies and site permissions

  5. Select Notifications

  6. Turn on Don’t allow sites to send notifications

Option 2: Block or Remove Specific Websites

Use this if only certain sites are causing pop-ups.

  1. Go to Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Notifications

  2. Under Allow, find the website

  3. Click the three dots beside it

  4. Choose Block or Remove

Option 3: Block From a Prompt (Quick Fix)

When a site asks to send notifications:

  • Click Block
(Do not click Allow unless the site is trusted.)

How to prevent these notifications from coming up in the first place.

If you don't want these to show up in the first place, be aware of "Show notifications" prompts while browsing the Internet.  If you get these, in most cases either just click on "Block" if you never want this message again from this site, or close the little window with the X.  If you click "Allow" you will get those pop-ups.  Note: Sometimes you will want notifications from sites (such as for email notifications even when not specifically on your webmail site) -  but just beware of what ones you allow.
