Differences between POP & IMAP.

POP or IMAP?  What is the difference?

POP email works by taking a copy of the email messages off the server and storing it into your email software.  Then the message will be deleted from the server in the set number of days, freeing up space for more email to come in.  Even when the message is deleted off of the server, you will not lose the copy saved in your email software.  When using POP on several devices, each device will work independently.  This means an email sent from your POP account on your phone, won't show up anywhere on your email software configured on your laptop.

We recommend to use POP if you are have a mailbox with limited storage (under 2 GB) and don't require devices to sync your email data.

IMAP is typically preferred when you are using multiple devices to check email.  Using IMAP allows your messages to synchronize between devices.  If you open a message, it will show as read on all devices - if you delete a message, it will be deleted on all devices.  Also, any email you send will get stored in the Sent Items folder on the server and be visible from all devices.

Keep in mind that all messages stay stored on the server and therefore your mailbox continues to fill up - if it gets full you will no longer be able to send and receive until some space is cleared.

We recommend to use IMAP if you want your email to reflect the same on all devices and you have a large mailbox.
