How to Check Your AVG Licence, Expiration Date & Updates

Modified on Fri, Oct 16 at 10:53 AM

Applies to: AVG Internet Security (Home Edition) for Windows

If your AVG licence has recently been renewed, you generally do not need to reinstall the software or enter a new licence key. AVG should automatically recognize the updated subscription.

Follow these steps to confirm your protection is active and up to date.

Step 1 – Open AVG Internet Security

  1. Click the Windows Start button.

  2. Search for AVG Internet Security and open the application.

  3. Wait for the main AVG window to appear.

Step 2 – Check Your Subscription Status

  1. Click ☰ Menu in the upper-right corner of AVG.

  2. Select My Subscription (sometimes displayed as My subscriptions).

  3. Under Subscriptions on this PC, locate AVG Internet Security.

  4. Confirm the subscription shows Active.

  5. Review the expiration date and remaining subscription period.

If your licence was recently renewed: Confirm that the expiration date has been extended to reflect your renewal.

It may take some time for AVG to recognize a recent renewal. If the date has not updated, close and reopen AVG while connected to the internet. If it still shows the old date, please contact Office Works.

Step 3 – Check Your Current Licence Key

If you would like to verify which licence key is installed:

  1. Remain in Menu → My Subscription.

  2. Under Subscriptions on this PC, click the small downward arrow beside your AVG subscription.

  3. Look for the activation code displayed beside Subscription.

  4. Compare this code with the licence key supplied by Office Works, if applicable.

If your existing licence was renewed, your licence key should remain unchanged.

Step 4 – Check for AVG Updates

  1. Click ☰ Menu → Settings.

  2. Under General, select Update.

  3. In the Virus definitions section, click Check for updates, if available.

  4. Allow AVG to download and install any available updates.

  5. In the Application section, check for available software updates.

  6. If AVG requests a computer restart, save your work and restart when convenient.

We recommend leaving automatic updates enabled.

Step 5 – Disable Unwanted AVG Promotional Offers

AVG may occasionally display advertisements or recommendations for additional products that are not included with your existing licence.

To reduce these unwanted offers:

  1. Open AVG Internet Security.

  2. Click ☰ Menu → Settings.

  3. Select General → Notifications.

  4. Under Offers, uncheck both options:

    • Share app-usage data with AVG so we may offer you upgrades or our other products.

    • Share app-usage data with AVG so we may offer you 3rd party products.

These changes help prevent AVG from displaying promotional offers for additional products and services.

Important: We recommend leaving your normal security notifications enabled so AVG can continue alerting you to potential threats.

Step 6 – Confirm Your Protection

Return to the main AVG screen.

Ideally, AVG should report You are fully protected, your subscription should be active, and your software should be up to date.

If AVG reports an expired licence, an activation problem, or another warning that you cannot resolve, please contact Office Works for assistance.
